How VHS piracy helped make life more tolerable in Ceausescu's Romania

You may remember last year that we shared a promotional trailer for Chuck Norris vs. Communism, a documentary on how a woman named Irina Nistor dubbed thousands of illegal foreign blockbusters in 1980s Romania. This act of VHS piracy helped contribute to the toppling of Ceausescu's communist regime. The film is about 80% finished, and you can help director Ilinca Calugareanu complete this badass story about the home video revolution.

A new Indiegogo campaign for Chuck Norris vs. Communism has been launched. Calugareanu and the producers will use the funds to shoot one last time in Romania, create animated sequences, compose original music (the score with be done by violinist Alexander Balanescu), and complete the editing. Perks for funding include access to a digital copy of the film, signed copies of the film and/or the soundtrack, custom ring tones, being animated into the film, getting your face put on a digital poster of an 80s action icon, and more.
