Here's a list of 91 tunes competing for the 2017 Best Original Song Oscar

All that matters is Sing Street

Yesterday the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) revealed their list of the 91 eligible tunes for the Best Original Song Oscar. We won't find out the final list of Academy Award nominees until January 24th, but certain movies seem like strong contenders to take Best Song: there are three songs from the musical La La Land, two from Moana, two from Sing, an one from Zootopia. One unexpected nominee comes from the heartbreaking documentary Southwest of Salem: The Story of the San Antonio Four.

The only song that matters, though, is "Drive It Like You Stole It" from Sing Street. ("Go Now" from Sing Street is also up for an Oscar. But it's not as good as "Drive It Like You Stole It".)

Sing Street is the latest from John Carney (Once), and it's one of those feel-good, misfit-friend, coming-of-age movies that follows a kid discovering a creative outlet as a way to live and understand the world. It's set in the 80s, and the title band of the story writes pastiches of hit songs of the era, like songs by Duran Duran, The Cure, The Jam, and Joe Jackson. "Drive It Like You Stole It" is like Hall and Oates on adolescent overdrive, balancing hope against hormones and angst.

While Sing Street was nominated for a 2017 Golden Globe for Best Musical or Comedy, none of its songs were up for an award.

Below is the full song list. Really, though, it's 90 songs and 1 that matters.
