Hong Kong will begin reopening cinemas as coronavirus cases start to decline

Theaters to be kept below capacity to prevent second wave

The future is looking bright for Hong Kong cinephiles. City officials announced yesterday that theaters in the area would start to reopen this Friday as a part of a "phased relaxation of social distancing measures." The move comes as new coronavirus cases in the city have begun to decline, leading many to hope for the best.

Broadway Cinemas, one of the largest multiplex operators in the region, was quick to announce a number of films that would begin playing on May 8, 2020. These include films like Don't Worry, He Won't Get Far On Foot, Better Days, Tora-san, Wish You Were Here, and Trolls World Tour. The Universal picture Emma will open next week on May 14, 2020.

Every theater will be kept below full capacity in an effort to curb a second wave from happening. Broadway shared some floor plans of its seating arrangements that indicated which spots would be available, showing that it is taking care to not put too many people too close together. This all comes with a wave of other news about different businesses opening, which includes gyms, beauty salons, bars, and schools.
