Invader Zim will return in TV movie form, meatbags!

I LOVEDED YOU, PIGGY!

Jhonen Vasquez was an important cultish part of my teenage years, and I can still find his creative fingerprints in my sense of humor. I loved his comics Johnny the Homicidal Maniac and Squee (these days especially the latter); there was years-long stretch when everything I drew had a Vasquez-look to it. It's no surprise that I also loved his short-lived animated show for Nickelodeon, Invader Zim, which aired in 2001 and 2002. It was the same madcap humor of his comics but in a children's chewable form.

Vasquez revived the character Zim in a comic series through Oni in 2015. Now it looks like Invader Zim is making the jump back to TV in a brand new 90-minute made-for-TV movie on Nickelodeon.

Nostalgia, you fill my brains with GOOOOOO!

No word yet on when the Invader Zim TV movie will air, but the core original voice talent (Richard Horvitz, Rikki Simons, Andy Berman, Melissa Fahn) is signed on to the project to voice the main characters. It's unclear what role Vasquez will play in the made-for-TV movie.

In another weird bit of nostalgia, Richard Horvitz, the voice of Zim, was a supporting cast member in the 1987 Carl Reiner comedy Summer School, which was an important part of my childhood. (Therefore it is good.)
