Jackie Chan and Frederick Wiseman will receive honorary Oscars

They should co-star in a buddy cop movie

Action icon Jackie Chan and influential documentary filmmaker Frederick Wiseman (Titticut Follies, High School) will both receive honorary Oscars from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. Honorary Oscars will also be given to esteemed British film editor Anne V. Coates (Lawrence of Arabia, The Elephant Man) and lauded casting director Lynn Stalmaster (Harold and Maude, Superman).

Chan, Wiseman, Coates, and Stalmaster will all be honored at the AMPAS Governors Awards on November 12th.

If you've followed my writing on Flixist over the years, you know how much I love martial arts movies and documentaries/non-fiction film. The fact that Chan and Wiseman, two legends in their respective genres, are both being honored in the same year is wonderful to me. Wiseman was to be expected given his vast body of work (more than 40 films in almost 50 years), but a butt-kicking silent-clown from Hong Kong like Chan getting a statuette is a great surprise.

Seriously, though. A Chan/Wiseman buddy cop movie would be kind of great.
