Japan's Godzilla to return as Toho announces new film

This better be a rubber suit or I'm done with you, Japan

Big news (get it?) out of Japan today as Toho, the wonderful folks behind every Godzilla film that used large rubber suits has announced they will be bringing the giant lizard back once again. This will be the first non-western Godzilla film to hit the big screens in 12 years since Godzilla: Final Wars came out. It's damn exciting news for those of us who liked the direction the western Godzilla went, but were saddened by the lack of destroying of Japan.

The new film, which will be separate from Legendary's films series, is set to release in 2016 and is a direct result of the U.S. film doing so well. The project’s leader, Taiji Ueda, said, “The screenplay is currently in development and we plan to start shooting next summer. We cannot announce cast or staff selections at this time. And we’re still deliberating whether to bring Godzilla to life via CGI or man-in-suit. This resurrection will be the centerpiece for ’16, and this is the force of our words.”

OK, I'm not sure why there's any debate on whether they should use rubber or CGI, but since they seem to be insane everyone should start emailing Toho now and telling them rubber is the way to go. Gareth Edwards owned CGI Godzilla even if the movie had its flaws so they need to do their own thing and their own thing is a man in a Godzilla suit.
