Jenny Slate is writing a Looney Tunes reboot for WB

0

To go along with all of the other recent live action/CG reboot nonsense, Jenny Slate (Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked, Saturday Night Live) has been tapped for write a future reboot of the Looney Tunes franchise (known for Bugs Bunny, the Monstars, and Daffy Duck (and why do I feel the need to tell you this?!?!)) for Harry Potter producer David Heyman, along with Dark Shadows scribes David Katzenberg and Seth Grahame-Smith, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

I'm...oddly okay with this. Slate has proven to be a damn funny woman. She was the only watchable thing in Alvin and the Chipmunks 3 (she played a nuttier version of Tom Hanks's character from Cast Away), and I am seriously ready for more Looney Tunes. While their new Cartoon Network cartoon is alright, it seems tame in comparison to the original's heyday. While the live action/CG thing won't work for every flick out there, Looney Tunes could benefit from it when done correctly. Take Space Jam, for instance. It should have been awful. Jordan couldn't act and that one annoying portly gentleman from Seinfeld was in it. But coupled with an okay script that indulged in the nonsense, an awesome cameo from Bill Murray, Jordan's massive career, and the great way the animation blended with the live action scenes, it all seemed to work.

Was Space Jam lightning in a bottle? Probably. They tried a second Looney Tunes flick with Brendan Fraser but title escapes me because I don't care. Although I am kind of sad that the new film won't use traditional animation, which was what really made the Tunes special, if the CG looks anything like those Coyote/Road Runner shorts from the television series, I think everything will be okay for once.
