Joe Manganiello wants to make a Dungeons and Dragons movie, has co-written script

Roll for initiative

Dungeons & Dragons has plenty of high-profile devotees, from Stephen Colbert to Vin Diesel to Junot Diaz. You can add Joe Manganiello to the list. He's been open about his geekdom before, and recently played D&D at Nerdist with Matt Mercer, Marisha Ray, and Taliesin Jaffe of Critical Role.

Manganiello's love for D&D could translate into a big screen adaptation. (It couldn't be any worse than the movie that came out in the year 2000.) The actor has co-written a D&D script with John Cassel, and is currently talking to people in the industry to get the project off the ground. Manganiello noted on Twitter that the film will predominantly be an adaptation of Dragons of Autumn Twilight, a 1984 Drangonlance novel by Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman.

A D&D movie seems like a given when you consider the resurgence of tabletop gaming. Manganiello purportedly wants to ground the film in character as much as spectacle, which probably means he'd make a good Dungeon Master. (We may even get a remake of Mazes and Monsters out of this fueled by a resurgence of Satanic Panic.)

Watch Manganiello roll some polyhedral dice below.
