John Cusack to star as Poe in The Raven, sort of

What happens when you combine John Cusack with a poem from the 1840's plus a director with little under his belt?  Not sure, but pictures from the set of The Raven, starring John Cusack as Edgar Allen Poe, have surfaced and can be found here.  At first glance, the project seems cool, but then we have to remember that a) the story isn't based on The Raven, and b) good John Cusack has been pretty absent in the 2000's.

The Raven is rumored to revolve around a serial killer who copies the murders in Poe's stories, and Poe has to help the investigation for some reason. Enter Cusack, who actually kinda looks the part as the mysterious writer, who's strange death could be part of the movie as well.

Given that this is a period piece involving a fiction writer, and that the original source material is a poem about a man visited by a bird, they have their work cut out for them.
