John Williams leaving Star Wars after Episode IX

0

Cue sad walking away music

If there is one score that truly defines a movie it is John Williams scores for the Star Wars films. The music is synonymous with the movie in a way almost no other scores are, and he's been doing it over and over for every Star Wars film, but that is coming to an end. The prolific composer has said that Episode IX will be his last Star Wars film.

"We know JJ Abrams is preparing one [Star Wars movie] now that I will hopefully do next year for him," he said to radio station KUSC. "I look forward it. It will round out a series of nine, that will be quite enough for me."

I'm sad he's leaving, but its also exciting to give some other folks a chance. While Disney's spinoff films have all had different composers Williams has provided themes and guidance on them so it will be interesting to see where new scores go. Do you think anyone would be ballsy enough to release a Star Wars film without any of Williams' original soundtrack? Would Disney even let them?
