Ken Russell’s musical porno Alice could yet be completed

Prior to his death, the great Ken Russell had been working on a new version of Alice in Wonderland: An X-Rated Musical Comedy from 1976, which Flixist’s resident Elmo-interviewing, serious-dog-owning saucepot, Jenika Katz, wrote about for our monthly Cult Club feature back in April.

Plans for the remake would see Russell’s ideas being shot by a new director, with original producer Bill Osco and Russell’s widow, Elize, on hand to keep everything on the straight and narrow – oooh, matron! Although the film remains in the planning stages and no cast members have been confirmed, Roger Daltrey, frontman of The Who, has been approached to play The Mad Hatter, while the songs will be written and composed by the BAFTA nominated composer Simon Boswell. Plans to get Lady Gaga and Rihanna to record tracks for the movie are ambitious to say the least, but a musical porno Alice could hit Gaga’s creative sweet spot.

We may never see the likes of Ken Russell again, but this could be a fitting last hurrah for his infamous blend of bawdy eccentricity, sex and Catholicism-baiting.
