Kubrick's first film to finally be released on Blu-Ray

0

In 1953, Stanley Kubrick released his first feature film, Fear and Desire, to minor critical success and poor box office draw. It got to the point where Kubrick had to take a job directing a promotional film to raise funds for his next film, the more conventional Killer's Kiss. Eventually, the rumor around town was that Kubrick was buying up all of the prints of Fear and Desire so that no one could see it again. Naturally, he wasn't successful. The film has since screened at various film festivals around the world, and has been selected for preservation at the Library of Congress.

Despite the preservation and recent broadcast of the film, many people have had to resort to bootlegs of the film to see it, as no proper home release was available. That is, until now. Kino, the wonderful folks behind the recent re-release of A Trip to the Moon, will be releasing the film for the first time on Blu-Ray and DVD on October 23. The transfer we'll be seeing is a new print based off of the Library of Congress' copy. As with many recent Kino releases, expect a wonderful package and a great transfer. As a Kubrick devotee, this is some of the best news I'll hear all year, and I can't wait to pick up the disc for myself.
