Lionsgate considering a Hunger Games theme park

Like Disneyland, only terribly sad.

The Hunger Games series is an odd duck. It's incredibly popular while managing to be one of the darker teen stories on the market. At base level it's a series in which children murder each other for the enjoyment of rich onlookers as they struggle in a class system steeped in both fear and vanity. On the surface, it looks really nice. I suppose it looks nice enough for Lionsgate to consider offers to build a themepark based on the series.

According to The Wrap, Lionsgate has been approached by several folks who want build a park based on Panem, the state where Hunger Games takes place. But I can't see the appeal. All Hunger Games has going for it is the murder, so without that, are kids going to have fun searching for each in the forest and climbing/sitting for several hours in a tree? Nevertheless, at least The Hunger Games: Catching Fire (releasing November 22nd) looks good.
