Lucas digitally swapping Jar Jar Binks with Jeff Goldblum

Star Wars fans have long bemoaned the horror that is Jar Jar Binks. Strange-looking in 1999, completely dated compared to modern CGI, and ever annoying, he is the symbol for everything wrong with the Star Wars prequels. What's even worse is that George Lucas, always eager to alter his past work to present his latest definitive vision, seems to have no desire to fix a character that absolutely no one likes. Until now.

Lucas has come to his senses and realized that since it will provide a great excuse for another rerelease, he will finally be digitally replacing Jar Jar Binks with seasoned veteran Jeff Goldblum. "Back in the late 90s, Goldblum-technology just wasn't capable of fulfilling my true vision," said Lucas. "Thanks to the latest advancements, I am now able to show the world how The Phantom Menace should have always been."

Goldblum's part will actually be a complete substitution, fully replacing Jar Jar with Goldblum playing himself. Goldblum will not put on a costume, simply wearing his normal clothes in every scene. Lucas intends to redub any instances of Jar Jar's name to refer to Goldblum. Other than the name change, the script will be unaltered.

Lucas would not comment on rumors that Goldblum would be digitally added as a background character in the original trilogy.
