Madness in the Method marks Jason Mewes' directorical debut

Contains Stan Lee's last on-screen apperance

Jason Mewes, famous for his role in the Jay and Silent Bob films, will be premiering his directorial debut Madness in the Method next month. Releasing into select theaters and on-demand on August 2, 2019, the film marks a departure from the actor's pedigree by being a semi-serious look at how actors struggle with redefining themselves after becoming typecasted.

Produced by Autumnwood Media, the film is written by Chris Anastasi and Dominic Burns (UFO). Mewes plays the leading role alongside an ensemble cast featuring Vinnie Jones (Snatch), Gina Carano (Haywire), Jaime Camil (Jane the Virgin), Kevin Smith, Danny Trejo, Teri Hatcher, Brian O'Halloran, Dean Cain (God's Not Dead), and the legendary Stan Lee in his final on-screen appearance. If you happen to be attending San Diego Comic-Con next week, you can catch a sneak peek of the film at the TCL Chinese Theatre where Mewes will be in attendance with an after-screening Q&A.

While I don't think the film looks all that great, I have to give props to Mewes for going so meta with the plotline. The actor has struggled most of his life with drugs and the perception that the character of Jay brought to him, so it's cool to see that all referenced here. Having reformed himself and regained the trust of his longtime collaborator and friend Kevin Smith, I do hope the two can continue to create ludicrous comedy for years to come.
