Mads Mikkelsen in talks to star in dystopian sci-fi Chaos Walking

Can you hear my internal cries of want?

Ordinarily when a movie is almost 2 years away I try to not give it too much thought but when Charlie Kaufman is involved I tend to keep it on my radar a bit. Now if you throw Mads Mikkelsen into the mix and shake it up with a little dystopian science fiction then you have my eyes, ears, and mouth to do with what you please.

In a rumor reported by Variety today it was revealed that Mads Mikkelsen is in talks to play the antagonist in the film adaption of Patrick Ness' book "Chaos Walking: The Knife of Never Letting Go." The film aptly titled Chaos Walking is set in a world where all women have died from an outbreak of a germ and all remaining living creatures can hear each others thoughts. The story revolves around a young man (played by Spider-Man Homecoming star Tom Holland) who discovers secrets that were initially kept from him, in response he flees his settlement with nothing but himself and his dog. Shortly after leaving, the boy stumbles upon a mute woman (played by the soon to be newest Sith lord Daisy Ridley) who works with him to unlearn his past so that he may continue to live.

The role that Mikkelsen is rumored to be in talks for would be that of the town mayor and leader of the party searching for Holland's character who would seemingly be at risk of having his darkest secret being revealed. If it sounds a little young adult to you that's ok because the books came out during the peak young adult dystopian science fiction years, but hopefully with a screenplay written by an all-star collaboration of Charlie Kaufman, Lindsey Beers, Gary Spinelli, and John Lee Hancock this movie won't fall into the usual pitfalls of the other movies that came out of that crazy fad. Who knows, maybe this will turn into another Adaptation with Mikkselsen playing an older Kaufman who wants desperately to cover up his secret that he once left a typo in one of his screenplays.

Chaos Walking is planned for a release on March 1, 2019 with filming planned to start in the next two months in Montreal.
