Marc Forster won't return to direct World War Zequel

World War Z2: Gerry's Revengeance

World War Z wasn't the greatest movie ever. Oh, am I supposed to elaborate? Oh well, uh, World War Z wasn't the flop it was expected to be and I guess that earns some praise. The film went on to earn the money necessary (grossing at least $539 million worldwide) to break even ($400 million) and even strike enough of a profit that a sequel is in the works for some reason.

But it already looks like the Zequel is going to go through the same productions troubles the first film had, with Marc Forster (director of the first film) deciding not to return for the half-assed sequel. Why half-assed? Because no one knows what anyone is doing yet. Talking with The Hollywood Reporter about 12 Years A Slave, Brad Pitt had this to say about the production of the Zequel:

Plan B also is developing a sequel to Z, which still is in its nascent stages, though director Marc Forster won't be back. "We are talking about it … We are going to investigate a script. We have a lot of ideas we will cull from. Nobody is writing just yet, but we are compiling our ideas.

Forster probably got out while he could. I'm sure he doesn't want to swim through the muck again in order to get a breath of fresh air through pure luck.
