Marvel's The Inhumans to debut in IMAX theaters before heading to ABC TV in Fall 2017

The first TV show to debut via IMAX

The fate of Marvel's The Inhumans seemed uncertain this year. It was taken off the Marvel Cinematic Universe Phase Three schedule last spring after being pushed back from 2018 and 2019. Now Marvel is taking an unprecedented step with the project. The Inhumans will become a TV show, but the first two episodes will be shot in IMAX and screen in IMAX theaters for two weeks in September 2017. The show will then hit ABC television in Fall 2017.

Since The Inhumans were introduced to the MCU via Agents of SHIELD, it makes sense to have the show also run on ABC. This sets up a fascinating dynamic, with three distinct parts of the Marvel Cinematic universe:

  • The Marvel feature films in their own Avengers family
  • The Marvel Netflix shows (Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist) in their own Defenders family
  • The two Marvel ABC shows in their own SHIELD family

What could this all mean or amount to? Who knows. I just hope we get to see Lockjaw, that adorable weird mut.

What do you think about this new development in the MCU? Will you watch The Inhumans in IMAX? Do you bow down to your new Disney overlords? Isn't Black Bolt kind of the coolest looking character? Share your thoughts in the comments.
