Marvel Television, 'Wonder Woman' writer developing female superhero show for ABC

0

Low-budget A-Force, anyone?

With the cancellation of drivel such as Inhumans, ABC is apparently looking for another Marvel series to go alongside the returning Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Marvel Television and its president Jeph Loeb have apparently found a new partner in comics writer and veteran television producer Allan Heinberg, who also wrote the Wonder Woman movie. According to Deadline, ABC has given the collaboration a production commitment, with the story revolving around female superheroes.

The news comes after the report that film division Marvel Studios is bringing movie characters like Loki and Scarlet Witch for their own television shows, but this would be on Disney's exclusive streaming service rather than broadcast television. Assuming that Marvel TV won't be able to use those same characters, I have to wonder what or whom this ABC project would be about. An obvious answer would be A-Force, a new comic series centered on Marvel's superheroines—the problem is that ABC wouldn't be able to nab the likes of Scarlett Johansson, Brie Larson, (both getting their own damn movies) and others. Not to diss Melinda May, Quake, or Jessica Jones, but such a TV show would probably be bringing in the C-list and D-list characters.

Or you know, this project might just never get made—we were supposed to get a Damage Control sitcom a long time ago, and where is that project that 12 Years a Slave writer John Ridley was making with ABC (via ComicBook.com)? Probably buried in a ditch in Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige's backyard.
