Masters of Doom novel to be adapted for USA by Ramona Films

Acclaimed novel Masters of Doom, a nonfiction telling of the history behind the development of ID Software's 1993 classic Doom, will be getting adapted into a TV series for USA Networks. Coming from Ramona Films, James and Dave Franco's production company, a pilot order has been given that is looking set to be turned into an anthology series.

The pilot will be written and produced by Tom Bissell, a WGA Award-winning writer that has penned numerous scripts for video games including Gears of War 4 and Uncharted: The Lost Legacy. Executive producers include Ellen Goldsmith-Vein, Eric Robinson, and Jeremy Bell, James Franco, Dave Franco, Vince Jolivette, and Elizabeth Haggard. D.J. Goldberg of The Gotham Group will be co-executive producing.

The story behind the creation of Doom is perfect for a drama series, so I'm eager to see how this turns out. I'm not sure there needs to be more than a single season, but it might be interesting to ponder about how modern-day versions of ID Software alumni would react to the changes of the video game industry. Regardless of what happens, this series likely won't be airing before 2020.
