Michael K. Williams joins Assassin's Creed, Ghostbusters

Michael K. Williams is set to join a couple of big movies next year that'll have nerds in a tizzy. The fan-favorite alum of The Wire will join Paul Feig's Ghostbusters and Justin Kurzel's Assassin's Creed adaptation.

Williams is the latest big-name star to join Feig's Ghostbusters reboot, which also stars Melissa McCarthy and Kristen Wiig. He'll play a character named Hawkins, although nothing else is known about his role. Matt Walsh of Veep and Andy Garcia of Ocean's Eleven have also joined the movie's cast; Garcia will play the mayor of New York City and Walsh will play someone named Rourke.

Almost nothing is known about Williams' role in Assassin's Creed or his relation to fellow stars Michael Fassbender and Marion Cotillard. For those unfamiliar, Assassin's Creed is based on the series of videogames developed by Ubisoft which could loosely be described as "historical fiction." Each installment puts players in the shoes of an assassin in various historical periods, ranging from the Crusades to the American Revolution; the series also has a metanarrative about a massive corporation using mad science to dive into peoples' genetic memories. It's not known whether the film will adapt an existing game in the franchise or tell a new story. Both movies are due out next year.
