New Looper poster, details on the film's unique score

0

A new poster has dropped for Rian Johnson's Looper, one of the 2012 movies we've been looking forward to since last year. It's pretty keen, though the tagline could be better. ("Yippee ki yay, Gordon-Levitt" has a better ring to it than "Hunted by your future. Haunted by your past.") You can check out the poster in the gallery.

For fans of film music, Wired and The Playlist shared the latest video from composer Nathan Johnson, who scored Rian's Brick and The Brothers Bloom. Rather than being melodically driven, the Looper score is built on a virtual orchestra of found sounds, like metal scrapes, spring door stops, and banged pipes. The result is a hybrid of electronic and industrial sounds; sort of like a rusty, clangy-er Aphex Twin. The first of these videos on the music of Looper is above, and includes a preview of the song "Time Machine."

After the cut, Nathan Johnson goes into more detail about the percussion for the film's score and previews the song "A Day in the Life" (not an industrial cover of the Beatles track). Looper is the opening film of this year's Toronto International Film Festival. It arrives in theaters on September 28th, 2012.
