New Releases, week of 8/17/13: Olympus Edition

Olympus Has Fallen, A Band Called Death, The Muppet Movie, and more on DVD/Blu-ray

The big new release this week is Antoine Fuqua's White House Down, starring Gerard Butler and Morgan Freeman. Oh, sorry, I meant Olympus Has Fallen, starring Channing Tatum as Gerard Butler, Jamie Foxx as Aaron Eckhart, and Roland Emmerich as Morgan Freeman. It's one of those cases where two similar movies come out in the same year. I understand that Olympus Has Fallen also bears striking resemblance to Zelda II: The Adventure of Link.

Other big new releases include the documentary A Band Called Death, the Korean film A Werewolf Boy, and the Cannes Grand Prix-winning Reality.

On the re-release side, the biggies are the Criterion release of John Frankenheimer film Seconds (was supposed to watch it with some friends over brunch last weekend but got busy) and a special "Nearly 35th Anniversary Edition" of The Muppet Movie.

After the cut, the week's new releases and re-releases, and also a chance to quake it up.
