New Robin Hood movie called Merry Men in development

Robin Hood has been a staple of big screen adventure ever since the days of Douglas Fairbanks and Errol Flynn. The most recent high-profile Robin Hood movie was the 2010 Ridley Scott film starring Russell Crowe, which most people didn't watch and don't remember either.

And so a new Robin Hood movie is on the way called Merry Men, written by Brad Ingelsby (the forthcoming Christian Bale/Zoe Saldana film Out of the Furnace) and to be directed by Scott Waugh (Act of Valor). The focus will not be on Robin of Locksley alone but rather the whole group: Robin, Friar Tuck, Little John, Billy Shears, IG-88, the Spiders from Mars, and Gimli. No actors have been announced for the project yet.

I think my favorite Robin Hood movies have been the Fairbanks and Flynn ones, the Disney one, and Mel Brooks's Robin Hood: Men in Tights. I actually have an odd fondness for the gritty, historically realistic, pasty/unglamorous approach to 1991's Robin Hood starring Patrick Bergin and Uma Thurman. (Note that I only like the approach, not the resulting movie.)
