Nicolas Cage to face off against younger Nicolas Cage in The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent

Think Gemini Man but people actually want to see it

When I first reported on Nicolas Cage's next life-altering film epic, The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent I made it my solemn duty to continue to selflessly report every piece of news even slightly related to the film in the year leading up to its release--and this just might be a promise I won't break!

In an interview with Empire, Nicolas Cage discusses the difficulty of playing fictionalized versions of himself and in doing so drops that in the film he'll be juggling a double role Adaptation-style of the older, more refined Nicolas Cage against his young and wild counterpart.

“There are many scenes in the movie where modern or contemporary – here we go – ‘Nic Cage’ and then young ‘Nic Cage’ are colliding and arguing and battling it out. It’s an acrobatic approach to acting," he tells the magazine. Does this mean we're going to see Nicolas Cage screaming at himself on the big screen? Oh god, yes.

Cage also alludes to the fact that there will be full-on recreations of some of his past scenes. "I’m probably going to have to look at a couple of the movies from the past again, because I think we’re gonna have to reenact some of those sequences," he says. "It’s like walking through a Cabinet of Dr. Caligari version of Con Air and Face/Off.” That sounds like something I very much cannot wait to experience.

The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent will begin production soon and plans to Cage-ify theaters on March 19, 2021. Finally, a reason to live that long.
