Fears over the coronavirus epidemic have caused Eon Productions and MGM to cancel the Beijing premiere of No Time To Die, the latest installment of the James Bond series. With many theaters and businesses closed down to stop the spread of this disease, it seems MGM didn’t want to risk getting anyone infected simply to release a film. The name couldn’t have helped, either.
Bond is just the latest in a swath of films that have had openings canceled in the country. Basically everything releasing this month and next is getting pushed back to an unknown date. Hollywood is probably very worried as China has become one of the most important markets. That goes double for Bond as China is the franchise’s second-largest market.
It’s more important to protect people, though. If No Time To Die simply has to wait, then so be it.
