NYC: Catch the Old School Kung Fu Fest at Metrograph (April 8-10)

Eight classic kung fu flicks

There's nothing like a good kung fu movie to make me smile. When done right, they're almost like musicals, just with more kicking in the face. If you live in New York and love kung fu films, you're in luck. The 6th Old School Kung Fu Fest will be held at the newly opened Metrograph from April 8-10.

The Old School Kung Fu Fest is the brainchild of Subway Cinema, the same people responsible for The New York Asian Film Festival (NYAFF), one of Flixist's favorite film festivals in NYC. There will be eight films at this year's Old School Kung Fu Fest, featuring Bruce Lee, Jackie Chan, Sammo Hung, Yuen Biao, Jimmy Wang Yu, Lau Kar-Leung, and others:

  • Big Bullet
  • The Blade
  • Enter the Dragon
  • The Man from Hong Kong
  • Pedicab Driver
  • The Prodigal Son
  • Rumble in the Bronx
  • A Terra-Cotta Warrior

Bonus: The Man from Hong Kong co-stars George "The One-Off James Bond" Lazenby. There's a great segment about the film in Mark Hartley's Not Quite Hollywood: The Wild, Untold Story of Ozploitation!, an exceptional 2008 documentary on Australian exploitation movies.
