Opening of Brooklyn Alamo Drafthouse delayed indefinitely, there's something in my eye

Dammit

Aww man, what a bummer. As you may recall, Brooklyn was set to have its own Alamo Drafthouse this summer, which would have made up for the Upper Westside Alamo Drafthouse getting nixed. Turns out we really can't have good things.

An official statement released on August 24th noted that the Brooklyn Drafthouse will not open this month, and that there is no rescheduled opening date for the time being. The key section of the statement reads as follows:

After some early delays, we had an August date that was sticking and felt very realistic for our grand opening. Sadly we've had to face the facts that that date, and opening this month, is no longer realistic. Getting a business open in New York is...complicated.

So, back to the original question: when is the theater opening? To be perfectly honest, we don't have an answer right now. If you've seen our Instagram account lately, you know our theater looks ready to go, and we can't wait for you to see it in person. We just can't say exactly when that will be.

It's unclear what specific setbacks the Alamo Drafthouse has experienced in opening up their Brooklyn location. We may hear more about them in the weeks to come. Perhaps there's an issue with serving alcohol and foodstuffs? Then again, the Nighthawk (which is comparable to the Drafthouse) is operating just fine in Williamsburg. Could it be a building issue? Maybe there's an adorable family of possums living in one of the theaters.

On the note of building issues, one of the commenters at Gothamist has noted that the City Point retail complex that contains the Alamo Drafthouse is experiencing numerous construction delays. While the Drafthouse may have been set to go, it may be held back by everything else around it. Today Gothamist reported that the City Point Trader Joe's won't open until early 2017.

This all bodes ill. Regardless, we hope to have more information on the Brooklyn Drafthouse opening in the near future.

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to curl into a ball and watch Miami Connection.
