Oscar-nominated director George Miller is NOT done with Mad Max

Says he was misquoted

Remember how George Miller supposedly said he's done making Mad Max movies given the 17-year battle to make Mad Max: Fury Road?

Turns out he was misquoted by The New York Post. (Such is the nature of reporting at The Post.) Miller explained to The Wrap:

That was a completely garbled interview. I was in New York and it was so noisy and the journalist was asking me questions on a red carpet at the National Board of Review. She completely got the wrong fragments of information that were just not true. I said no, [another Mad Max movie] will not be next, and she took that to mean I never wanted to make another Mad Max. It won't necessarily be next, but I have two more stories.

Miller also noted that he'd been traveling for 27 hours prior to the red carpet soundbite, which might have contributed to the misunderstanding.

This morning, Mad Max: Fury Road was nominated for 10 Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Director. This is Miller's first Best Director nomination in a long career. He's won a Best Animated Feature statuette for Happy Feet, and also earned nominations as a writer and writer/producer for Lorenzo's Oil and Babe, respectively. (Babe 2: Pig in the City is great as well, by the way. Think Jacques Tati's PlayTime as a Dahl-esque Ozploitation kids movie.)

It's good to know that Miller is still game for vehicular madness in the wasteland, and that he's finally being recognized for decades of solid direction.
