Her socks are long

Pippi Longstocking, the wildly successful children's book series, is set to receive another film adaptation soon. In a report from Variety, it's been revealed that Studiocanal and Heyday Films will be partnering together to bring the beloved character to the big screen once more. Famous for their collaboration on the immensely popular Paddington films, there's a real chance that both studios have a winner on their hands here.

Nils Nyman, grandson of Pippy author Astrid Lindgren, said, "In David Heyman [founder of Heyday], with his impressive track record of bringing great literary works to the screen, together with Studiocanal, we are confident that we have found a team that can understand and appreciate the full value of Pippi Longstocking and develop films that capture both the playfulness and the gravity in my grandmother's works."

Heyman added, "Pippi has endured and inspired families everywhere through her life-force, strength of character and her irrepressible joie de vivre. Astrid Lindgren's books have been translated around the globe for many years – a testament to her vision, which we are determined to honor with a new film."

Originally written between 1945 and 1948, Pippi Longstocking has endured for many generations. The stories have been translated into 77 different languages, sold over 65 million copies, and even received numerous prior film adaptations. The last one hit theaters in 1997 before the character was seemingly left behind. The series is certainly long overdue for a return.
