QT finds his Django Unchained editor, DP

Normally, I wouldn’t be interested in making a story out of a given filmmaker choosing new editors and directors of photography, unless they’re picking up some legendary figure from the field. In the case of Django Unchained, however, things are different, as Quentin Tarantino is working with his first film without his erstwhile editor Sally Menke, who died last September and had edited every single one of Tarantino’s films and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Sally’s replacement has massive shoes to fill, to say the least, as the editing has always been one of the strongest parts of any Quentin Tarantino movie. The Foot-Crazed Filmmaker has chosen Fred Raskin as his editor. Raskin is no stranger to Tarantino, as he served as an assistant editor on both Kill Bills.

Tarantino has also chosen his DP: Robert Richardson. Richardson is another Tarantino alum, having worked as a DP on the Kill Bills and Inglorious Basterds. I didn’t like Inglorious Basterds terribly, but it looked amazing, so Richardson is set to deliver the goods again for Django.
