Quentin Tarantino and J.J. Abrams form Voltron, work on next Star Trek installment

Say 'what' again, I dare you, I double dare you ...

Early semi-breaking news from Hollywood reveals that Quentin Tarantino (The Hateful EightDjango Unchained) and J.J. Abrams (Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Star Trek: Into Darkness) are forming some sort of super team of writers to potentially tackle the next installment in the Star Trek franchise.

Rumor has it that if the story develops well, Tarantino may direct while Abrams would produce, and presumably hand out cotton candy to everyone on set. Delicious.

Tarantino is a long-time fan of the franchise while Abrams directed the first two films in the most recent reboot. Both of Abrams films far outperformed the most recent Star Trek film, Star Trek Beyond, helmed by Fast and the Furious director Justin Lin ($257.7M, $228.7M, and $158.8M, respectively).

This may become the bloodiest Star Trek film ever. Imagine, entire away teams of red shirts laid to waste not with the gentle, tickling breeze of phasers, but with the gore-inducing, body-maiming realism of actual weaponry. Imagine Kirk, that smug playboy, tortured to get the vital information necessary to the downfall of the Federation. Or perhaps Spock, having a pointy ear removed while he made not a whimper, but only muttered half-veiled insults under his breath about incompetence and lack of ability to properly torture.

Stay tuned for more details and in the meantime, let us know what you think of a Tarantino / Abrams Star Trek.
