Reno 911 is coming back thanks to Quibi

HANDS WHERE I CAN SEE THEM!

Get ready for another season of cop shenanigans. In a deal between Comedy Central and streaming service Quibi, the mockumentary serial Reno 911 will be returning for a seventh season next year. Original series creators and stars Robert Ben Garant, Thomas Lennon, and Kerri Kenney-Silver are set to write and star in this revival that will likely air alongside Quibi's launch in April 2020.

In a press release, Lennon said, "Reno 911! holds a special place in our hearts, and it will be a delight to get the original cast back together for re-boot goofin. Hopefully Nick Swardson can still roller skate. Quibi's short format seems custom made for our show." As that quote alludes to, Quibi is similar to something like TikTok instead of Netflix. Shows on the service will be much shorter in length, leading to things like skits instead of full-blown series.

Even with that limitation, Reno 911 was already filmed like a series of skits. A parody of the popular reality series Cops, Reno 911 took the sometimes surreal stories of awkward criminals and injected a sense of humor into it. The show was notable for being mostly unscripted, leading to some incredible improvisational sequences. It was often irreverent to the point of absurdity, which made it all the more enjoyable.

Sarah Babineau and Jonas Larsen, co-heads of original content for Comedy Central, said, "We are very excited to partner with Ben, Kerri and Tom, three of the most gifted multi-hyphenates in comedy, to bring more of their iconic series Reno 911! to the world. Fans demanded this for a long time and Comedy Central Productions and Quibi are thrilled to help answer that kind of 911 call."

Maybe this isn't exactly the revival fans have wanted, but it will be good to see the old crew back together.
