Roberto Orci leaves Amazing Spider-Man 3

Not-So-Amazing

If The Amazing Spider-Man 2's quality left you wondering about the franchise's state of affairs, I'm sure this news may shake that up a bit more. Sony's had huge plans for the films with Venom, Sinister Six spin-offs, and even planning up to a fifth Amazing Spider-Man film. But Roberto Orci, who was on tap to write Spider-Man 3 and Venom, has now left the series (most likely to focus on Star Trek 3).

Speaking to IGN, Orci has no idea what's going on with the series:

I’m not officially involved in [The Amazing Spider-Man 3]. I don’t know what their plans are for that franchise. I don’t ever want to say never, but we have to figure out what their scheduling is in terms of when they want each movie. I’ve read probably as much as anyone else. There’s a love for ‘The Sinister Six,’ the idea of ‘Venom’ — there’s an idea of Spider-Man’s going to be one of these characters that’s part of our business. He’s such a popular character. Spider-Man’s not going to go away any time soon. When it all happens and how and all that has yet to be determined.

Although the films are performing well internationally, the hype for them has surely died down here in the States. I liked the second film, but plenty of folks did not. But I'm sure this shake up can only be good. It was getting stale.
