Rumor: Suicide Squad undergoing big reshoots to add humor and jokes

Why so serious?

Hey, remember that zany Suicide Squad trailer with Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody"? Apparently all of the jokes were in that trailer, and the rest of the movie was a grim, unfunny experience. Because comic book movies are sooooo serious, guys. And, like, dark, bro.

Warner Bros. paid attention to how well-received that trailer was. Sources close to Birth.Movies.Death. report that tens of millions of dollars are going into Suicide Squad reshoots. Currently underway, the new footage will focus on adding humor, levity, and some jokes, and also "beefing up fun character moments and interactions."

This might be a case of a misleading trailer/bad marketing improving a dour little movie.

After the overbearing dreariness of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, a little bit of levity is welcome. I wonder if these reshoots are being done partly in response to the divisive fan reaction over Batman v Superman. There's also the success of Deadpool (the highest-grossing R-rated movie of all time) to factor in.

We'll have to wait and see what these reshoots mean for the overall shape of the movie. Suicide Squad comes out August 5th, which means there's less than four months (realistically less than three months) to shoot the new scenes, implement this footage into the existing film, and re-edit the entire movie.

What do you think of this news? Did you want a joyless Suicide Squad movie, or do you like smiling and laughter? Does Warner Bros. even know what the hell they're doing at all?

Add your thoughts in the comments.
