Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark has a terrible song cover in its teaser trailer

Can this trend please end?

Today we got a double whammy of looks at the upcoming adaptation of everyone's favorite childhood horror book Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark. The first bit was the poster that came out and I gotta say they really undersold this one. Instead of using the iconic artwork from the original book or some kind of modern adaptation, they went with a generic scarecrow with bugs coming out of its eyes. Blech, and not for the right reasons.

We did get to see a bit more of the movie after the small snippets we saw during the Super Bowl spots that probably cost more money to air than the budget of some Blumhouse productions. I gotta say it looks like they are doing a good job of keeping it an anthology while trying to string together an overarching narrative. They are going the whole "old family controls a small town" route, which could work well. In lieu of an anthology series, I don't think we'll get a better option than this.

As for the creepy plinky piano cover of "Somewhere over the Rainbow," can you please not PR people? This trope has gone on long enough and it's been out of vogue for a while now. We on that classical music train now, and there are no brakes on this train. You can either get on or be left behind.

Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark will release on August 9, 2019, and will star Zoe Colletti, Michael Garza, Austin Abrams, Gabriel Rush, Austin Zajur, Natalie Ganzhorn, and Dean Norris.
