Sequels already being planned for Assassin's Creed and Splinter Cell movies

The search for more money

While the two Ubisoft-title movies (Assassin's Creed and Splinter Cell) have yet to be released, there's already talk about making sequels. Because obviously they want to make sequels, and money. According to Variety, the Taiwanese company Catchplay, co-financier of the two films, revealed that New Regency would like to turn each property into film franchises. Catchplay CEO Daphne Yang said that the the two adaptations in the works would be ideal for sequels.

This sort of talk isn't surprising, especially since studios will take any IP with some name recognition and try to build a major franchise out of it. Studios like money.

This sort of talk is also premature. Assassin's Creed (starring Michael Fassbender, Marion Cotillard, and Michael Fassbender's penis) is currently in post-production and won't be in theaters until December 21st. Splinter Cell (starring Tom Hardy) is stalled without a director, but might be out some time in 2017. Maybe Michael Fassbender's penis can direct it.

And of course, whether or not these movies get a sequel depends on how they do at the box office, which can be unpredictable. Name recognition isn't the same as butts in seats. Remember that Jem movie? Of course you don't.

How does early sequel talk strike you when it comes to movies? Share your thoughts in the comments.
