Shawn Levy will direct the Uncharted film adaptation

It looks like that Uncharted adaptation is moving forward again. Sony has tapped Shawn Levy (Night at the Museum, Real Steel) to direct the film from a script by Joe Carnahan (The Grey). Carnahan was at one time attached to direct Uncharted, but he will instead direct the Bad Boys sequel Bad Boys for Life. Neil Burger and David O. Russell were also attached to direct Uncharted before bowing out.

Carnahan seemed like a better choice overall for the adaptation given his action chops. Levy seems out of left field. Then again, you may recall that Seth Gordon had previously been attached to direct Uncharted for a hot second. Gordon directed the comedies Horrible Bosses and Identity Thief. Levy at least has Real Steel and a few episodes of Stranger Things under his belt, but he’s still an unlikely choice for the project. Even Justin Kurzel (The Snowtown Murders, Macbeth) directing Assassin’s Creed seems more likely than Levy doing Uncharted.

What do you think of this pick? Who should they cast? Were you at one time contacted to direct Uncharted? Let us know in the comments below.
