Slow weekend is slow for the box office

Box office round up

We're in a small calm before the holiday box office storm right now as the big release of Thanksgiving get some time to breather before the onslaught of Christmas releases starts to bear down upon us. With nothing but a re-release of Schindler's List and limited openings of Vox Lux and Mary Queen of Scots landing, Ralph Breaks the Internet took the top spot once again despite only pulling in $16.1 million. Overall this was the second-worst weekend of the year, though, it performed within expectations.

What's nice about this time is it gives the Oscar nods some time to breathe and pull in more money. These films have slower box offices so a weekend without a bunch of big-time movies is nice for them to have. You'll notice a good chunk of hopeful nominees in the top ten, all of which have been sticking around for a good amount of time now.

Next week will bring the big boys, though. It should be a massive holiday season with a bunch of hotly anticipated films landing. What are you looking out for?

2. Dr. Seuss' The Grinch - $15,175,000
