Sonic the Hedgehog getting a live action/CG movie

Gotta go faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaast

With Sega's Sonic the Hedgehog series reaching its 25th anniversary, Sega is looking for all sorts of ways to celebrate everyone's favorite to hate hedgehog. Along with a potential new game, Sega's CEO, Hajime Satomi, announced a partnership with Sony on a live action/CG hybrid Sonic the Hedgehog film.

There are no further details other than a vague 2018 release window, so I have no idea how to react yet. We're on the cusp of a potentially great videogame film season, so I'd hate for something late to the party to wreck it all. Just like Mario Bros, the Sonic games have always been more about gameplay than story. And to top it all off, each of Sega's attempts to give Sonic some kind of story have all blown up in their face (just look at every game beyond Sonic 2). Also, how is this supposed to work? Is he going to pop up in our world? Is Eggman/Robotnik going to be a live action actor in front of green screen creatures?

I'm reminded of that one really bad fan film from awhile back that had a CG Sonic opposite real people. It tried to make Sonic's goofy nature work with real world physics, but failed tremendously. If dedicated fans couldn't make it work, how is some big studio supposed to?
