Sonic the Hedgehog Still Going Fast With Second Number One Weekend

0

Box office round up

Looks like making an enjoyable, inoffensive, faithful video game adaptation can actually pay off. Who would have thought? Sonic the Hedgehog managed to stay in the number one spot this weekend despite another family-friendly film, Call of the Wild, landing and gunning for the spot. With $26.3 million over the weekend the movie has surpassed $100 million at the box office and is looking like a certifiable hit for Paramount. We should probably expect that Tails-filled sequel sometime soon.

Meanwhile, Call of the Wild outperformed expectations but still looks to be a bit of a flop for Disney as it pulled in $24.8 million. That would be fine if the movie hadn't cost $135 million to make or if it had some sort of chance internationally. We probably won't hear much more about the film as Disney quietly shuffles it away.

The real big winner for the year so far looks to be Bad Boys for Life, which still sits in the top five and will soon become the first film of 2020 to cross the $200 million mark. That's a bit of a surprise as its success wasn't guaranteed and most people would have put that money on Birds of Prey. The latter film, by the way, is still struggling to find an audience with only $7 million pulled in this weekend for a box office total of a relatively measly $72 million so far.
