Sonic the Hedgehog to undergo visual redesign following public outcry

Hall hath no fury like a fan scorned?

So we all saw that trailer for Sonic the Hedgehog, yes? No? Well here's that. Even if you haven't seen the trailer, you've no doubt caught wind of the Internet's displeasure over the depiction of the azure blur, a gaming icon if there ever were one.

Fans were quick to express their extreme concern over the upcoming film adaptation of SEGA's much-hailed hedgehog, with quick and casual redesigns garnering more praise than the laborious, multi-million dollar project going on over in Hollywood.

Look, I'm linking to Flixist and will spare you the list, but people are not happy about this. The headlines speak for themselves. Live-action Sonic The Hedgehog continues to look bad, over at Kitguru. The Guardian's heading made me laugh: Sonic the Hedgehog: why his grotesque new look has caused controversy.

Point being, it's fair to say the majority of people were dreading this film. But just today, director Jeff Fowler took to Twitter to announce... something.

What the "changes" will entail remains to be seen, but this is a pretty bold move. For a film with a $90 million dollar budget  to enter, what I can only imagine to be a major effects reworking based on bad press, that's really something. The budget will no doubt inflate, but with details as spare as they are here one couldn't really say.

Sonic the Hedgehog, unless we learn otherwise, is scheduled for November 8th release.
