Sony actually has more movies in the top five than Disney

Box office round up

The big news over the weekend was that Frozen 2 became the highest grossing animated movie ever but that was only a sliver of the money made this weekend by Disney and Sony. That's right, a company that isn't Disney made a lot of money this weekend too.

While The Rise of Skywalker stayed in the lead with $33.7 million over the weekend (well on its way to becoming Disney's seventh $1+ billion movie), Sony actually had three films in the top five this week. That's a lot for one company that isn't called Disney but Jumanji: The Next Level is still playing strong with $26.5 million, Little Women looks to be a strong moneymaker with $13.57 million and even the critically panned The Grudge performed better than expected with $11.3 million.

The latter movie probably won't last much longer considering it has a rare "F" CinemaScore and its box office plummeted day-to-day over the weekend but at least for one weekend a different corporate bohemoth made a lot of money. That's... something, right?
