Sony planning Little Women remake

You can't keep a good woman down

Another day, another Sony reboot. This time around, the studio is looking to once again adapt the Louisa May Alcott classic novel about sisters in the post-Civil War era, Little Women, which was most recently in theaters over 20 years ago.

The screenplay will be written by Sarah Polley, while Amy Pascal, Denise Di Novi and Robin Swicord will produce. The remake has been in the works since 2013, when Pascal was still in charge of Sony (she stepped down in the fallout of the hacking scandal of last year). The remake doesn't yet have a director attached, but Polley certainly has the chops, known for her work on films like Stories We Tell and Take This Waltz

Given its status as a literary classic, it was inevitable that Little Women would find its way into theaters again. It's also refreshing to see a major studio project that, so far, is fully staffed by women. That said, Sony's stock isn't exactly at its height right now, between the hacking scandal and other fallout over The Interview last year, the Spider-Man debacle (as good as an outcome as that had for Marvel fans) and backlash over its double-dipping with Ghostbusters, so we'll have to wait and see how this one turns out.
