Spider-Man reboot/sequel/remake/thing has director shortlist

Spidey actor list known as well

The next Spider-Man film might be the superhero movie I'm most excited for. The Garfield films were fun, but with him joining the Marvel U things should get back on the right track (or not). Sony seems to be doing their part with a short list of directors that make things even more interesting. St Vincent helmer Ted Melfi and Warm Bodies’ Jonathan Levine are the front runners at the moment with John Francis Daley & Jonathan M. Goldstein, the director-writers of the updated version of John Hughes’ Vacation, still in contention. There's also a surprise contender coming in at the final hour in the form of Cop Car director Jon Watts.

It's interesting to see that all three have recently helmed comedies instead of action films and that almost all of them have experience with drama. It's not clear who will win out or if they'll write the screenplay once they do (Sony is talking to screenwriters as well), but Deadline reports that a decision should be pretty imminent.

They also note that there's a short list of actors being looked at for the role of Peter Parker/Spider-Man. That's far less solidified though and a decision definitely won't be coming for a while. Asa Butterfield and Tom Holland are the frontrunners, and Matt Lintz and Charlie Rowe are also looking to swing into action.
