Spider-Man's $25.2 million July 4 box office is second largest ever

Doing whatever a very rich spider can

Every week there's another article about how the next movie to release in the MCU is going to be the film that finally starts to show that there is fatigue with the franchise and then the movie releases and it's easily proven wrong. Spider-Man: Far From Home pulled in a whopping $25.2 million over the July 4th holiday, destroying the idea that people would abandon the MCU after the finality of Avengers: Endgame. That's the second best July 4th for any movie, coming in behind Transformers $29 million.

Far From Home has already netted nearly $90 million since opening on Midnight of Monday, and the projections for the weekend will put the movie well above expectations. That's a good sign for an industry that had a rash of weeks featuring movies falling bellow them. It couldn't have happened to a better movie, honestly. Far From Home illustrates the best of what Marvel does, mixing a charming amount of character with blockbuster antics -- and even some politics this time around. As a coda to Endgame, it's delightful and, more importantly, it makes you want even more.
