Star Wars Episode IX is set a year after Episode VIII

Kept you waiting, huh?

While Star Wars: The Last Jedi was set immediately after the events of The Force Awakens, it seems that the still untitled Episode IX will have a much bigger gap in time chronologically.

In an interview with Empire, none other than John Boyega, who plays the role of Finn, revealed that the upcoming Episode IX will take place more than a year after the conclusion of The Last Jedi. While this isn't unheard of in the grander Star Wars tradition of things, it's in stark contrast to the precedent set by this new trilogy.

For instance, Kylo Ren's meeting with Snoke at the beginning of The Last Jedi appears to be the first time they had spoken since the events of The Force Awakens, and Rey leaves of exactly where we left her at the end of that film.

Hey, Star Wars news is Star Wars news! We can't be choosy in times like these. The only other news I've heard that's even vaguely Episode IX related is about John Boyega getting jokingly arrested by stormtroopers at Disneyland Paris. Or was it because of what he told Empire?

Regardless, Episode IX is still slated to release sometime in late 2019.
