Star Wars IX has a new release date in winter

With the news this morning that JJ Abrams would be writing and directing Star Wars Episode IX it probably won’t come to anyone as much of a surprise that the movie has now been delayed. The film was originally scheduled for a summer release of May 24, 2019, but will now land on December 20, 2019

This will put it smack against the release of Wonder Woman 2 a week earlier, a battle of mighty film universes if there every was one. We’ll have to wait and see if the execs at WB blink as they consider the audience that Star Wars could pull away in the Wonder Woman 2‘s second week. December is always crammed with big films anyway, but studios usually like a little bit of breathing room when the target audiences is so similar. We’ll have to wait and see if WB blinks.
