Take a look behind the scene of Isle of Dogs animation process

Movies are going to the dogs

After a bit of a lull, stop motion animation has been making a comeback of sorts in American cinema in recent years with releases like Anomalisa and Kubo and the Two Strings. Following in those movies footsteps and The Fantastic Mr. Fox before them, Wes Anderon's next film, Isle of Dogs is a stop motion adventure about a futuristic Japan that has banned dogs to an island and the boy who goes to the island to save his dog. It looks to be about as Wes Andersony as you would think and that is thanks in no small part to the animators.

Fox Searchlight released a featurette today detailing the process and work that went into bringing Anderson's patented vision to life in stop motion that included how the models were made, the process of showing off the voice actor's traits, as well as some subtle looks at the beautiful sets that have been crafted.
