The Favourite director Yorgos Lanthimos to adapt The Man in the Rockefeller Suit as a limited series

Moving from prestige film to prestige TV

Yorgos Lanthimos, a very talented filmmaker with a name I will triple-check every time I type it, will follow up his accolade magnet The Favourite with a limited-series, because great filmmakers turning to TV is all the rage.

The series, being produced by Fox's Searchlight Television, is based on a nonfiction book by Mark Seal. Titled The Man In The Rockefeller Suit: The Astonishing Rise and Spectacular Fall of a Serial Impostor, because nonfiction books have the longest titles on earth, it concerned Clark Rockefeller, a man who was in fact not a Rockefeller and for decades conned his way into a career on Wall Street--and a marriage--using a false identity. In the adaptation, his wife Sandra starts to suspect something's wrong with Clark's story, and his life begins to unravel.

Sounds neat. I can see Lanthimos tackling a slow-burn web of deceit like this with a deft hand and beautiful eye. It'll be interesting to see how he'll handle a mystery/thriller over his usual work in horror and comedy.

You might be wondering where you should expect to watch a Searchlight-produced series, and as best as I can guess it'll end up on Hulu. The Man in the Rockefeller Suit has no release plans yet, though, so we'll just have to wait and see.
